Trading and brokerage accounts: a trading company, accounts at IBKR and Exante, tax on investment income
Private traders, family investment companies, prop teams. We open corporate and personal brokerage accounts, choose the jurisdiction for a trading company, and calculate the tax on securities income so that reporting in Ukraine does not come as a surprise.
The tasks clients came to us with
An investment company for a trader with an Interactive Brokers account
The trader traded from a personal account and paid 18%+5% in Ukraine on every profitable trade with no offset for losses. We set up a Cypriot company, opened a corporate IBKR account, and documented the investment policy and the source of capital. The company pays tax on profit net of losses, dividends to the founder follow the double-tax treaty, and the CFC report has been filed.
A prop team of 8 traders: company, contracts and payouts
The team traded the founder’s capital through his personal accounts, and trader payouts went out as “gifts”. We set up an Estonian company, opened accounts at Exante and an EMI, and put the traders on profit-share agreements. Payouts became transparent for the bank, and the company’s tax is 0% until distribution.
A personal brokerage account and private banking for a UAE-resident HNWI
The client moved to the UAE and wanted to move a portfolio from a European broker to a Swiss bank. We prepared the source-of-wealth pack, supported the private banking account opening and the portfolio transfer, and checked the CRS consequences of the change of residency. The portfolio moved in two months, with tax residency confirmed by a UAE certificate.
